The Study of Leonard Hughes
8.06.2020
About a month ago Chad Einwalter and Mike Moehtar, the cinematographer and AC behind "Pantomiming" and "The Subject" contacted me with the idea of coming up with a new project for the three of us to work on together. Chad, still pleased with the working atmosphere on "The Subject", believed that we had begun to find a working stride, and he asked me to try and develop a new story to direct, with him and Mike behind the camera. Instead of simply coming up with a new idea for myself to direct, I suggested the three of us do a lengthened piece, broken into three acts and based around a specific theme, and that each of us take an act and run with it. By running with it I mean, write and direct. Chad took it a step further and suggested that we each do a piece that could be viewed seperately if so desired, but that would fit together to create a more complete story (much akin to the Glass saga as written by Salinger). When this idea was settled upon the three of us set to work to write our portion of the film. My assignment was Act II, which was projected to run at about 8-10 pages. Mike's assignment was Act I, projected to run around 5-7 pages. And Chad's assignment was Act III, coming it around 3-4 pages. I slacked on my portion of the story for the two weeks the three of us were supposed to be "working", but over the weekend I got my act together, did my prewriting work and came up with a story that had been germinating inside my head over the "work" period. The original draft of this story was absolutely horrible. I don't want to show it to anyone ever. But, I think it has improved since then. Just so you know, the theme of our film is "loneliness".
