A Good Read

Whenever I set out to write a new screenplay, I always dig up my copy of Syd Field's The Screenwriter's Workbook for inspiration. This was one of the original textbooks Gabe and I read for our screenwriting class last year, and I think I'd be correct in saying that it's helped us both tremendously. There are other books out on the market that I'd also suggest, but most of them tend to merely regurgitate what Field says. I'm very thankful for having read this book. It offered good advice for moments when I was having a tough time defining elements of my story.

This place has been pretty quiet for a while...I was thinking of posting something to shake things up. I had a second short story I was gonna put up (Stockholme) but I can't work on it right now, I've got enough to do. But hey, maybe I could just post the entire first act of "Last Rights"? That's easy enough. Look for it soon...it'll be the lengthy post.

Ode to the Poppy

In between school and more school, I’ve managed to find time for a few personal pursuits. One of those pursuits includes researching my next screenplay, the first written since “Last Rights”, in preparation of the 2005 Phoenix Film Fest. So far, the research has been going quite well. So well in fact that I’m certain I’ve latched on to a good topic to base my next screenplay upon. What’s it about? You know the drill; it’s confidential. But, you can do a little research of your own. In fact, may I suggest a starting point?

The script does have a title at this moment though, and I might as well just drop it.

Sin of the Opiate
